The Rwandan Orphans Project (ROP) orphanage is home to nearly 100 boys from just five to eighteen years of age. Most of these children are found in the streets begging or scavenging for food and money, washing in sewers and wandering aimlessly around.
The long term vision of the Rwandan Orphans Project is to rise enough funding to be able to establish its own vocational training school for trades such as mechanics and carpentry.
As part of this vision the ROP Quilting Program was originally conceived as a type of vocational training scheme for the Orphanages older boys. Today the ROP employs one of the graduates of the original quilting program who makes quilts, handbags, cushion covers and other items. From the sales of the quilts which we sell at Artless Impact ten girls lives are changed each year, thanks to the money raised by selling these beautiful items.
All the proceeds from the sale of these beautiful Rwandan quilts contribute to the children’s formal education to become leaders in the next generation, with the vision of a more peaceful nation and world!
